NerdWallet reported Q2 2026 revenue of $197.3 million, up 6% from $186.9 million, while net income declined 48% to $4.3 million from $8.2 million. The quarter shows that higher revenue did not translate into higher profit, largely because costs grew faster than revenue.
Reported comparison
| Metric | Q2 2025 | Q2 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue | $186.9 million | $197.3 million |
| Income from operations | $10.7 million | $7.0 million |
| Net income | $8.2 million | $4.3 million |
| Sales and marketing | $128.0 million | $145.4 million |
Consumer revenue rose 8% to $175.2 million, supported by deposit accounts and personal loans. SMB revenue fell 11% to $22.1 million. The company said organic-search pressure affected consumer credit cards and SMB revenue.
Revenue mix changes the interpretation
Consumer growth and SMB contraction should be followed separately because their acquisition channels and economics differ. Higher performance-marketing spending can buy near-term traffic, but it does not prove that customers will return without continued paid acquisition. Organic-search pressure raises the opposite question: whether unpaid discovery can stabilize while marketing cost rises. A stronger next-quarter result would pair revenue growth with lower marketing expense per dollar of revenue and stable or improving operating profit.
Marketing efficiency matters
Performance-marketing expense increased to $116.1 million from $89.5 million. Total sales and marketing rose 14%, more than twice the revenue growth rate. The next filing should show whether that spending produces durable revenue and whether organic-search pressure stabilizes. First-half net income did improve to $24.7 million from $8.4 million, so the weaker quarter should be read alongside the stronger six-month comparison.
